House passes ban against regulating AI
On May 11, Republicans added language to their Budget Reconciliation Bill that would place a broad ban against regulations on AI technology for 10 years. States with existing regulations on AI may not be able to enforce them if the bill would become law.
- The bill already included cuts to Medicaid that would make healthcare more unaffordable for millions of Americans.
- On May 14, the bill advanced committee.
- On May 22, the Budget Reconciliation Bill passed the House with a vote of 215-214-1. It included language that expanded its ban on coverage of gender-affirming care for Medicaid recipients from only minors to all ages.

Hi {name and title of Congressperson},
My name is {your name} and I am your constituent in zip code {your zip code}.
I am calling to urge that you vote NO on H.R. 1, or the "One Big, Beautiful Bill Act" when it is presented.
The budget will cut Medicaid making life much more difficult for millions of Americans by making them pay higher fees when they seek medical care. It would ban coverage of gender-affirming care for Medicaid recipients of all ages.
But it would also place a broadly-defined ban on regulations over AI technology. States like New York, which has a law requiring employers to audit their AI tools for bias in employment decisions, would not be able to enforce those laws.
For context, today's generative AI technology and large language models (LLMs) require the massive-scale scraping of images, videos, audio, and writing from the Internet without the explicit consent of the original creator. The technology is only used for misinformation, disinformation, non-consensual intimate imagery, CSAM (which is directly in its data set), scams, and circumventing paying for labor. Without regulations, the 'AI' industry will only enable more malicious use.
Please vote NO on H.R. 1.
Thank you.
