4 Senators demand investigation into Meta's 'AI' chatbots

Context

Instagram's AI Chatbots lied to users about being licensed therapists and responded with made-up credentials.

Senators Cory Booker, Peter Welch, Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla signed a letter stating these concerns and demanding that Meta "immediately investigate and limit the blatant deception in the responses AI-bots created by Instagram’s AI studio are messaging directly to users."

Other notable incidents involving 'AI' chatbots:

• Meta's AI chatbots would make sex talk with anyone including children.
• A lawsuit alleges that Character.AI's chatbots pushed a teenager to kill himself.

Action

By Wednesday, June 11, contact your Senators to:

1. Oppose H.R. 1, the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," on the grounds that it would withhold broadband funding from states if they try to regulate 'AI' technologies.
2. Join the 4 Senators who signed a letter demanding an investigation into Meta's 'AI'.

• Recently Instagram chatbots lied to users about being licensed therapists. The bots responded with fabricated credentials.
• Meta's chatbots also engaged in sex talk with children.
• And Character.AI is being sued due to its chatbot allegedly pushing a teenager to kill himself.

There are not enough guardrails on 'AI' chatbots. Yet the passage of H.R. 1 would allow 'AI' to go unregulated and enable further harm.

I urge you to:

1. Vote NO on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and be vocal about the harm of 'AI'.
2. Join Senator Cory Booker and 3 others in demanding an investigation into Meta 'AI'.
